I normally do not take time to comment on the service I receive, but the professional service I received from Thompson's Cooling & Heating demands my response. David and his crew ensured the system they installed met all our needs at a cost that remained in budget; David was just as interested in keeping the cost down as I was. The system is performing beyond our expectations, given the summer we've had that's saying a lot. When one room was not cooling as desired, David's crew returned and added a second vent at no additional cost to us; that is service above and beyond. I never thought replacing my central system would be a positive experience, but David and his crew made the difference. Thank you for the professional work, dedication and integrity you continue to show, it makes all the difference.

I would like to thank you for such great service. I spoke to a gentleman on the phone yesterday who walked me thru what might be wrong with my AC. He was exactly right and it's almost frosty in here now. I really appreciate the time he took to help me and if I wasn't already sold on your company, yesterday would have done it. Thanks so much.

I wanted to let you guys know what a great experience we had with your service tech Corey. He answered all our questions. He is polite and professional - and handsome! He showed us the options for the Club Membership Service Agreements and we want to upgrade from the Gold to the Platinum for more savings. Keep up the good work.

Good morning Dave,
As a new heat pump user, previous gas heat, I have a couple of questions. When the unit first comes on, the heat at the nearest register to the unit rises to about 93 degrees. Within a short period of time it drops to between 82 and 85. Is this normal? Is there a normal rise from return to supply similar to the drop in cooling that is a norm and how will outside air temp affect the supply air temp. It was about 40 degrees when I made the above observation. Inside temp was adjusting from overnight setting of 65 to wake temp of 70.
Thanks, Gregg Stewart Fort Worth November 2010
OUR RESPONSE
Being a refrigeration machine there is a possibility you caught it in a temporary defrost mode. This is where it runs in a/c mode with one strip of heat on for a few minutes to defrost the coil outside. Depending on the time and temperature, it could be demand defrost or cumulative (build up of time) that happened. Usually, the air coming out is about 95 degrees unless it's bitter cold outside. We can come out and check it, no problem. But I have to wait until I get off jury duty. I got picked for a criminal trial. But I should be done for Friday. Let me know if you need us to come out. With me gone for a few days, the other men are on call. Keep me posted. Thanks for your patience.
Hi David,
Had one quick question. When I was reviewing the Amana website looking st the Heat Pumps, it appears that there is a big difference in the heating efficiency between the 15 SEER and the 16 or 18 SEER unit. The 15 SEER unit looks like it had a HSPF value of 8.0 to 8.2, where the 16 SEER and 18 SEER had an HSPF value of 9.5 - which according to the government makes a large difference on heating costs.I cannot be sure I am looking at the correct units, but could you tell me if there is a big difference between the three Amana units based on the HSPF ratings. Please let me know if the HSPF value is even accurate to use.
We want your company to replace our unit, but would like this information to determine for sure which unit I want to go with. Thanks,
Jeff Garrett -North richland Hills November 2010
OUR RESPONSE
According to our governing body for equipment efficiency and performance ratings, AHRI, Air Conditioning Refrigeration Institute, the 16 and 18 SEER systems achieve a 9.5 HSPF (heating season performance factor) while the 15 SEER system will achieve an 8.5 HSPF. As a rule of thumb, the colder the climate the higher the HSPF factor you need; transversely, the warmer the climate the higher the SEER rating you need. Here in Texas the winters are mild (last year being an enjoyable fluke with all the snow!). Typically, though, we get a couple "blue northers" that blow in each year. So far I haven't had any complaints. Besides, you will still have the emergency heat built into every new air handler (electric furnace) for emergency back-up heat. I can show you on the new thermostat where you can switch from cool/heat/emergency heat. The vast majority of the time you will be in the "heat" mode which is the heat pump running outside. But the back-up heat is there just in case.
In my home, I installed a 4 ton 18 SEER AMANA system downstairs with gas heat and a 3 ton 18 SEER system upstairs that is a heat pump. My emergency heat is gas! This system is called a "hybrid" or "dual fuel". A small niche of clients choose dual fuel systems (if they have natural gas service) so they can switch from heat pump to gas depending on utility pricing at the time. But if you are total electric, then heat pumps are the way to go. Usually, the only response I hear is that if a ceiling duct happens to be right over where someone sits in an easy chair, they feel a little "drafty". Husbands chuckle and say "just put on a sweater honey". All this boils down to our skin temperature is about 93 degrees and the air coming out of the vents on a cold day is about 95 degrees. Still plenty warm to heat your house properly. It's just a whole lot cheaper. Hopefully this helps. If you have other questions or concerns let me know and I will do my best to answer them. Thanks.
To Thompsons
In the paperwork for the new system you installed is an off "Core" from Goodman that pays the labor if the compressor/outside unit fails and must be replaced (years 2-5 or 2-10).
My question to you is what would be the cost to replace the ouside unit (free hardware replacement from Amana)? This plan pays up to $400 or $800 for the Silver or Gold option respectively.
Just trying to evaluate whether its worth the "insurance".
BTW, Benbrook inspector came out - no problem.
Denny B -Benbrook June 2009
OUR RESPONSE.
Don't worry about that extended warranty form in the outdoor unit paperwork. You already have a 10 Year Parts and Labor Warranty. If something fails, Amana supplies the part, we replace it, then they reimburse us later. The only thing you would be out after the first year is a service call of $79.00 -nothing the first year.I appreciate your business. If you have more questions please let us know.
David,
Thank you for your kind note. We all make mistakes. the thing I appreciate about your company is the willingness to take corrective action, which not only restores, but actually builds trust.
I made a referral to your company just two days ago for some repair work, and will be happy to continue to do so.God bless,

Several weeks ago your company installed a goodman a/c system in our home in arlington. Everything is working well…the guys did excellent work. My question is in regard to energy credits/rebates, etc. are we entitled to any type of tax credits or rebates as a result of the system being installed? Also, is there any type of additional information on the system? We rec’d a single page document that gives the specs, serial numbers and model numbers, etc…I just didn’t know if there was any additional information available about the system that would give us some help in the future. Thanks so much.. September 2011
Larry Link -Arlington
Larry, thanks for the email. We are glad your system is running properly. As far as the tax credit, the larger sum of $1500 ended on Dec. 31st last year. This year there is a much smaller amount of up to $500 for systems that are over 16 SEER rated. Your system is at 15 SEER and does not qualify for that amount. Usually, it must be a two-stage system with 95% gas furnace to qualify for the $500 tax credit. And the info we emailed or snail mailed to you is the electronic warranty and registration proof showing you have the 10 Year warranty on all parts and a one year Labor guarantee. Additional paperwork is usually left on top of the air handler up in the attic. We leave it there so it doesn't get misplaced. It is system electrical schematics and troubleshooting information. And for the homeowner, the best thing you can do for your system is to make sure the filter is checked or changed every month and that the outdoor unit is hosed down every two to three months between April and October. Also, after the first year of installation, we offer a Club Membership Service Agreement to come out and inspect, adjust and tune up your system twice a year to keep it running at peak efficiency. For more information on this please call the office and ask for Lydia the office manager. Again, we appreciate your business.
OUR RESPONSE
We are so sorry for the inconvenience and trouble you have experienced with one of our technicians. While we strive to do the best possible job we can, mistakes do happen. We will mail you a complete refund . Our policy is stated on the back of each invoice concerning your satisfaction. Please forgive our inability to meet your needs. And again, our apologies.
Recently a Thompson's technician provided service at our home in [Fort Worth}. Our main unit checked out ok. A second small 1.5 ton unit that cools one large room was not cooling and the technician said he had to add 2 lbs. of Freon. Total for service call was $159. The unit was still not cooling and a second service call was requested. The technician said the unit could still be 0.5 lbs. low but did not think it would help. We were billed $79 for the second service call. Another service call was requested from one of your competitors. The technician said the unit was over charged and removed about 1.5 lbs of Freon. He spent about an hour and one half working on and repairing the 1.5 ton air conditioning system. Service call and repair work cost us $123.95 and now the air conditioner is performing as it should. OUR RESPONSE
Mr. Thompson,
I wanted to put in writing the excellent customer service of Thompson's Cooling and Heating. Always reliable, readily available, highest level of respect and a dedication to customer service.
We have been customers for many years and we would never think of calling anyone else. In 2009, our air conditioning unit went and Thompson's installed an Amana system. The system has been working better than expected, dropping our monthly bill in half. Plus, we have never been so comfortable, whether it is summer or winter. I recommend Thompson's Cooling and Heating to anyone. You will not be disappointed.

David,
I wanted you to know I was very impressed with Michael and his service today. He answered all my questions, explained the program thoroughly, and all in all “knows his stuff”. Worrying about air or heat problems at home is now one less thing on my list!
Sue Piper -Fort Worth March 2011
Mr. Thompson,
I noticed on your proposal for my church air conditioning was sent via email as a MicroSoft Word document. I wanted to suggest to you to always send these in a PDF format so they can not be altered. As a businessman
outside our church I urge you to make the necessary change for your protection.
Steve Altman -Arlington March 2007
OUR RESPONSE
Thank you. All of our proposals from this point on will be in the PDF format. Thanks again for the tip!
David,
I thought you would be interested in the results from our HVAC investment. Well we have now had our new system including an Air Conditioner, Furnace and New Ductwork a year and the results are tabulated with a 25.7% savings in electricity use and a 22.9% reduction in gas usage when comparing the year after installation with the year before installation. Dollar difference equals $114.68 savings for gas and $396.35 saving for electricity. That's about a 20 year payback with savings alone. Plus the tax credit. One of the things I think made a big difference besides the unit efficiencies is the new duct work with its additional insulation and reworking some of the curves and bends. The house definitely heats and cools better.

Excellent service. David took extra time to explain some of the more intricate elements of my system and preventative maintenance options. He was punctual, professional, and took every care to leave my home as clean as it was before he arrived. I highly recommend Thompson's Cooling and Heating.
